C5.4xlarge but AMD?

1

I selected a c5.4xlarge instance. I noticed that I keep getting an instance based on an AMD CPU. Considering that my use case works better on Intel CPUs and that I am actually paying more by not selecting a c5a instance, I feel kind of tricked. Or am I overlooking something?

Hello,

Amazon EC2 C5 instances are optimized for compute-intensive workloads and deliver cost-effective high performance at a low price per compute ratio.

C5 instance sizes will launch on the 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors (Cascade Lake 8223CL) or 1st generation Intel Xeon Platinum 8000 series (Skylake 8124M) processor with a sustained all core Turbo frequency of up to 3.4GHz, and single core turbo frequency of up to 3.5 GHz.

You can get all detailed information like number of cores, threads per core, clock speed, type of hypervisor and many more from the Instance Types list, once you log in into AWS Console (Services -> EC2 -> Instance Types).

Kindly check the reference here: https://aws.amazon.com/ec2/instance-types/c5/. Go to Product Details and you can select different tabs for different variants of C5.

Selecting C5 instance family will always get you Intel processors.

Selecting C5a instance family will always get you AMD processor and it is more cost conservative than C5.
