Based on the information available, I understand your concern about accidentally converting your Free Tier account to a PAID plan while following an AWS Amplify tutorial. This is indeed a challenging situation, especially as a learner trying to make the most of your AWS credits.
When you create an AWS Organization, there's an important behavior to be aware of: Free Tier benefits don't apply individually to each member account within an organization. Instead, AWS applies the Free Tier benefits to the total usage across all accounts in the organization, typically tracked through the management account.
What appears to have happened in your case is that by enabling AWS Organizations and making your account the management account, the system changed how your Free Tier benefits were applied. This is why you saw your account type change from "Free Tier" to "PAID Plan" and your credits appear to expire immediately.
Even though you've now deleted the AWS Organization completely and your account is standalone again, the system doesn't automatically revert your account status back to Free Tier. This requires manual intervention from AWS Support.
The good news is that you've already taken the right steps by:
- Cleaning up all resources (deleting the organization and associated resources)
- Creating a support case to explain the situation
AWS Support should be able to help restore your Free Tier status and remaining credits, but resolution times with Basic Support can vary. While upgrading to Business Support would provide faster access through chat support, it might not be cost-effective for an individual learner.
For now, I recommend:
- Continue following up on your existing support case
- Be very specific in your communication about what happened and what you're requesting (restoration of Free Tier status and remaining credits)
- Provide all relevant details including the timeline of events and cleanup actions you've taken
While waiting for support, be cautious about creating new resources to avoid any unexpected charges. AWS Support typically handles these types of situations, especially when it's clear the change was accidental and you've taken prompt action to resolve it.
