To cancel all AWS services and avoid charges, here's what you need to do:
-
Login to the AWS Management Console using your account credentials at console.aws.amazon.com
-
Go to the "Billing and Cost Management" console - you can find this by typing "billing" in the search bar at the top of the console.
-
Look for "Cost Explorer" to see which services (if any) are incurring charges. This will show you exactly what you're being billed for.
-
Once you identify the services, you'll need to go to each service's console section and terminate/delete those resources. For example, if you have EC2 instances, you'd go to the EC2 console and terminate them.
-
Make sure to check all AWS regions for resources, as you might have services running in different regions that you're not aware of.
-
If you're certain you don't want to use AWS at all, you can close your account completely. To do this:
- Make sure you've terminated all resources first
- Go to Account Settings
- Scroll to the bottom where you'll find "Close Account"
If you're having trouble identifying what's causing charges or how to terminate specific resources, you can contact AWS Support by opening a case under "Account and billing" for assistance.
Remember that even if you haven't actively used AWS, some resources might have been created during the sign-up process that could incur charges if not properly terminated.

Hi Kris,
A similar question was asked here.
AWS has an official step-by-step guide on identifying and deleting resources within your account, which I will link below: https://repost.aws/knowledge-center/terminate-resources-account-closure
You can also utilize AWS Resource Explorer to identify resources within your AWS account: https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/introducing-aws-resource-explorer-quickly-find-resources-in-your-aws-account/

Hello, I hope that you were able to cancel the unwanted services. However, I have a question. Did they actually start charging you for the email free tier? That does not sound right to me. E.g. I am still using instances on the AWS EC2 free tier, I get charged for subscriptions running on them but not for the free tier. Thank you for taking the time to respond. Regards, JP
