550 Mailbox does not exist! Sometimes!

0

The last couple of days my three email accounts have been reporting intermittent errors reported by email correspondents that they receive the above error when sending emails. I host the dns on another hosting company and use AWS for email. As part of trying to resolve this problem I noticed Amazon wanted me to configure a mail from MX and TX record which I have done, but the problem still exists. Although all are receiving some emails. The domain dns records page is showing all green so not sure where to go with this issue.

HI,

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing problems with receiving mail. The problem sounds like an issue with your MX record containing more than 1 service resulting in deliveries to the wrong service.

Please make sure WorkMail is the only service in your MX record.

  • Thank you Robin, I did have two mx records for the domain, one pointing to amazonses and one to amazonaws I have removed the ses, however I also have turned off DMARC and both these actions seem to have improved the situation, although I was only experiencing intermitten issues with one particular users email so I will wait a day or so before assuming this has been resolved and will then test reimplementing DMARC.
