Question regarding AMI listing in EC2 Quick Start menu

0

One of my customers wants to list their solution as an AMI option in the AWS EC2 Quick Start menu. The goal is to allow users to launch EC2 instances with baseline configurations. The product is already available on AWS Marketplace as an AMI-based product.

  • Is there an established process to add AMIs to the EC2 Quick Start menu?
  • Which AWS team should I reach out to for this request?should I be engaging with the product team?
  • Are there any specific requirements or prerequisites?

Any guidance or documentation links would be greatly appreciated.

To list an AMI in the EC2 Quick Start menu, your customer would need to go through the process of creating an AMI-based product on AWS Marketplace. This is not something that can be directly added to the EC2 Quick Start menu by a customer or through a simple request.

The established process involves the following steps:

  1. The customer must first register as a seller on AWS Marketplace if they haven't already done so.

  2. They need to prepare their AMI product, ensuring it meets all AWS Marketplace requirements and best practices.

  3. The customer should then use the AWS Marketplace Management Portal to create a product listing. This involves providing product information, deployment details, and public offer details.

  4. Once submitted, the product goes through a review process by the AWS Marketplace Seller Operations team. During this time, the product is in a "Limited" state and can only be accessed by the seller and the AWS team for testing.

  5. After testing and approval, the product can be published to AWS Marketplace.

It's important to note that the EC2 Quick Start menu typically includes AMIs from AWS and verified partners. To be considered for inclusion, the AMI would likely need to go through additional vetting and meet specific criteria set by AWS.

For this request, the customer should start by engaging with the AWS Marketplace team rather than the EC2 product team. They can do this through the AWS Marketplace Management Portal or by contacting AWS Marketplace seller support.

Specific requirements and prerequisites include:

  • Having a fully prepared and tested AMI
  • Meeting AWS Marketplace guidelines for AMIs
  • Completing all necessary legal and business agreements for selling on AWS Marketplace

Given the nature of this request, it would be best to advise your customer to start with the AWS Marketplace process, as this is the established path for third-party vendors to make their solutions available to AWS customers in a similar manner to the Quick Start menu.
