DataSource in grafana cannot connect to opensearch - 502

Installed AWS managed opensearch
From a machine in EC2 I am able to query opensearch
SPun managed grafana work space, however it always times out connection to the opensource data source with 502 error
I went with default suggested by AWS. What am i doing wrong?
