Urgent: Unexplained CPU Bursting and Unresponsiveness on Expensive Lightsail Instance

0

We are currently using the most expensive Lightsail instance, paying over $3500 for a single server, and we have experienced repeated CPU bursts reaching 100% without any apparent reason. It started 2 days ago with no reason. Despite paying a premium for this service, we have been unable to obtain any technical support or assistance from AWS, which is extremely frustrating.

Our instance has not undergone any updates for several months, and everything was functioning perfectly until now. We have thoroughly checked for potential DDoS attacks, and our server updates are up to date.

We have noticed that the Net Host process is consistently consuming between 42% and 50% of the CPU, with the system occasionally going as high as 40%. This behavior is completely unexpected and alarming, especially considering the cost we are paying for this instance. It is clear that something is malfunctioning, and yet, there has been no support or explanation from AWS.

It is unacceptable that a high-cost service like Lightsail would experience such performance issues without any clear reason, especially when the system was stable for months. The lack of responsive support only adds to the frustration.

We are not willing to pay additional support fees for basic troubleshooting, as this is a service we are already paying for at a premium rate. Has anyone experienced similar issues for the last 2 days? The issue cannot be .NET Core APIs related as we didn't update the server for a very long time.

There is no Lightsail plan that is priced at $3500 for single server. Windows servers of the 2xlarge and 4xlarge plan sizes are $244 or $574 per month as can be seen here - https://aws.amazon.com/lightsail/pricing/. There are also no premium services.

Also, if you are able to notice processes on the machine consuming the high CPU, its a little confusing why you believe it isn't related to the actual application or traffic on the server?

  • Hello - thank you for the prompt answer. We're paying around $390pm and this is around $3500 per year and it's the most expensive light sail server. The issue might be the traffic but the same traffic wasn't an issue 2-3 days ago. We've been reducing the application processes step by step but the issue is still happening.

Hello.

Are there any logs output that indicate an abnormality in the application or system logs?
This might be a temporary workaround, but why not try restarting your Lightsail instance?
Also, if you are running a fairly large scale system, I think it is better to migrate to EC2 and choose an M7 instance type instead of Lightsail.
