Changing A records

0

I want to change my A records connected with my AWS domain name (from a wix website to an Adobe Portfolio website) but I am unable to properly add in the A records so that it connects.

Here are the new A records I want to add from Adobe Portfolio: new A records

Here is what my records look like in AWS: Current records

It will not let me delete the NS or SOA records and when trying to add the two I am missing it gives me this error: error

There is already an A-record for each of those records, if you want to have multiple values in an A-record (for instance if you want to round-robin between them) then select the current A-record and Edit record in the pane that pops up on the right.

Then in the free text box put a carriage return after the current value and type the new value on the next line.

  • Thank you Steve! I now have two lines for the @dianasteelman.com and www.dianasteelman.com. However it still does not seem connected because when I search for dianasteelman.com it goes to a wix error page. Do you have any idea where I could go from here?

  • Your domain's registrar is AWS but administration is delegated to WIX's nameservers https://who.is/whois/dianasteelman.com

According to this last update was February last year so it has been this way for a while.

This is strange because the screengrab in your initial question definitely shows Route 53 nameservers in the public hosted zone.

What are the nameservers for dianasteelman.com in https://console.aws.amazon.com/route53/domains/home#/ ?

  • Hi Steve! I got on the phone with someone from Wix and they had directed me to change the name servers as well becuase I still had the name servers for Wix. I replaced them with these name servers below which I foound in my A records: ns-1558.awsdns-02.co.uk ns-142.awsdns-17.com ns-1050.awsdns-03.org ns-921.awsdns-51.net

I don't know if these are correct as it is leading me to https://portfolio.adobe.com/missing instead of my website.

Any suggestions for what I should do next?

  • All four name server records in the registered domain https://console.aws.amazon.com/route53/domains/home#/

Need to match the name server records in the hosted zone https://console.aws.amazon.com/route53/v2/hostedzones#

WHOIS shows these are set to AWS nameservers (which is good) https://who.is/whois/dianasteelman.com

The A-record for dianasteelman.com will round-robin between the two IPs that you were trying to set in your original question:

    $ nslookup dianasteelman.com
    Server: 127.0.0.53
    Address:	127.0.0.53#53

    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name:	dianasteelman.com
    Address: 151.101.192.119
    Name:	dianasteelman.com
    Address: 151.101.0.119

So is everything all good now?

  • Yes I am all connected now! the last missing step I forgot about was to go hit apply on adobe portfolio

You need to delete your @.dianasteelman.com. Thats not valid

Then

  • Create a New A record for the domain. In the Record Name Leave this blank
  • Enter the 2 IP Addresses
  • That creates the apex record.

WWW works fine in DNS but it doesnt match the Host Header of your website.

  • Hi Gary! Thanks so much for your help. I did what you suggested which was a step in the right direction I believe. It is now sending me to https://portfolio.adobe.com/missing when I type in dianasteelman.com - so it is still not fully connected. Any ideas on what else could be wrong?

  • You’re welcome Diana. What I assume is the next issue is that you have not configured the host name on your website. Webservers listen for the host header in the http get request to match that to a virtual web server. Sites like wix and Wordpress require you to define your domain/website url before the webserver answers the requests. This usually is only supported on paid for plans. Ensure your domain is set on your webserver and the IP addresses are correct.
