AWS GameLift plugin support for Unreal Engine 5.4

0

Hi there, i was wondering when the official GameLift plugin for Unreal Engine will be updated to support Unreal Engine 5.4. Its been some time that 5.4 is out, they just released 5.5, and still the plugin does not work. What leaves me stunned is that there is a pull request for 5.4 support (which, at least for me, does not work) and the only way seems to be to pay for a plugin on the Fab (new Unreal Engine Marketplace) that will set you back 100$ but at least has support for blueprints. Now, i'm not very happy that i have to pay someone else to support the most current version of a plugin for a game service that i plan to use long term. Since i'm in the beginning stages of development i hoped i could contain wasting money on countless plugins so i would like to ask if someone is aware and working on an update.

Thanks for your time, Tom.

Thank you for your question about the AWS GameLift plugin support for Unreal Engine 5.4, Tom. I understand your concern about the lack of official support for the latest Unreal Engine versions.

As of now, the official Amazon GameLift plugin for Unreal Engine supports UE 5.0, 5.1, and 5.2. There hasn't been an official announcement regarding support for UE 5.4 or 5.5 yet.

The plugin is actively maintained, with the most recent version (1.1.0) being released earlier this year. However, updates for new engine versions can take some time to be developed, tested, and released.

Regarding the pull request for UE 5.4 support that you mentioned, it's not uncommon for community contributions to be made before official updates. However, these may not always work perfectly or be fully vetted.

As for third-party plugins available on marketplaces, while they might offer quicker updates or additional features like blueprint support, they are not official Amazon solutions. It's understandable that you'd prefer not to invest in these, especially early in development.

Unfortunately, I don't have specific information about when an official update for UE 5.4 or 5.5 support will be available. However, given Amazon's commitment to supporting game developers, it's likely that they are aware of the need and working on updates.

In the meantime, you might consider:

  1. Using the latest officially supported version (UE 5.2) if possible for your development.
  2. Keeping an eye on the official GitHub repository for updates or announcements.
  3. Reaching out to AWS support or posting on their forums for more specific timelines or workarounds.

I apologize that I can't provide a more definitive answer about when the update will be available. Rest assured that Amazon typically strives to keep their tools current with major engine releases.
