Installing a certificate

We got a validated AWS certificate. How can we install it without the need for the costly Load Balancer? Or another option - How can an ACME-issued SSL certificate be converted to a PEM format that is compatible with Spring Boot applications? Thanks, Moti

Hello,

For the first question "We got a validated AWS certificate. How can we install it without the need for the costly Load Balancer?",

You cannot install an AWS Certificate Manager (ACM) certificate directly on an EC2 instance without using an Elastic Load Balancer or AWS CloudFront distribution. ACM certificates are designed to be used only with AWS load balancing and CDN services.

For the second question "How can an ACME-issued SSL certificate be converted to a PEM format that is compatible with Spring Boot applications?"

  • Obtain the certificate, private key, and intermediate chain files from the ACME provider.
  • Combine the certificate and intermediate chain into a single file.
  • Create a PKCS12 keystore containing the combined certificate and private key.
  • Configure Spring Boot to use the PKCS12 keystore.
  • Place the keystore file in your application's classpath and start the application.

  • Theres no such Document called AWS-ApplyACMCertificate. As far as I know you cant install a Amazon issued ACM certificate on an EC2. You have to use an ALB or CloudFront.

  • Thanks for reminding me, You're absolutely right. you cannot directly install an Amazon-issued ACM

you must deploy the application behind an Elastic Load Balancer (ALB, NLB, etc.) or CloudFront distribution, and associate the ACM certificate with that load balancer or CloudFront distribution.
