STS deactivation

STS can be deactivated for all regions except US East. What is the significance of the US East region, that prevents/disallows the deactivation of STS?

us-east-1 is a bit of a special region in AWS with regards to global services like IAM. If you go to global services like IAM, you might have noticed your console URL gets changed to https://us-east-1.console.aws.amazon.com/

Because these core global services like STS have a dependency on this region, thats why you can't disable it.
