attache volume to a new instance

0

Hi there, I'm Chrischan and I'm brand new here, but maybe someone can help me. I'm trying to temporarily mount the volume of a crashed EC2 Windows Server on a new "rescue instance". Unfortunately, I'm not able to force the "Availability Zone" eu-central-1b. If I select Frankfurt in the Regions dropdown, I always get eu-central-1a as the zone. So I can't get the old volume to the new instance - because of the different zones.

Does anyone have an idea how I can force the system to open my new instance in eu-central-1b?

Best wishes and great thanks frontup, Chrischan

You can create EBS snapshot and then restore the volume in different AZ: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/ebs-creating-snapshot.html

If you want to attach the volume to an instance, both have to be in the same AZ.
