`aws configure sso`: "Authorization failed. Invalid code." in the browser

I continue trying to meticulously follow the docs to get AWS CLI working. However aws configure sso won't work, as when I enter the code it provides - it is never valid.

Any ideas?

You should be logged in to the correct email account when you do this. Do you use a company VPN to connect to your email account?

  • No, no VPNs. I opened the incognito session in Chrome, logged in using my portal link and Identity Center user that I created. It has both Administrator and PowerUser permissons assigned.

Try to check which one is your default browser. If you are executing command in your local system but AWS console can be opened in any restricted environment like Citrix/AVD, in that case generated code will redirect to your default browser in your local system only. In such scenario, if you copy generated URL in restricted environment, then it will not work.

  • I'm logged in in an incognito Chorme session using Identity Center user credentials with Administrator/PowerUser permissons. There I open a new tab and paste the link aws provided. This should work, right?
