I would like an explanation for minor traffic from other zones

Question

Our monthly bill in the Data Transfer section shows traffic in very small amounts from and to many of the worldwide zones outside of our specified zone. Is there a way to find out what this traffic is? We are undergoing a SOC-2 audit and the auditor is asking us for an explanation.

Hello,

A good first step would be to [enable VPC Flow Logs](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/vpc/latest/userguide/flow-logs.html).  This will help you understand the flow of traffic and the sources/destinations of that traffic.

It may also help to check [Cost Explorer](https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/mt/using-aws-cost-explorer-to-analyze-data-transfer-costs/) and filter to only show you services that have Data Transfer to the specific regions/locations you're concerned with.
