Email proof of delivery

-1

We sent an important email on July 14th to a company who say did not receive it. We had selected return receipt in webmail and received no reply from them. We're looking for any kind of way to prove they it made it to their servers. We did not have any logging enabled at the time and was wondering if AWS had any logs available to see how far the mail got. It would be worth it to open a case if we can find this out.

If you sent an email through Amazon SES and need to verify its delivery status, there are a few options to consider, though they depend on what was set up at the time of sending.

Without logging enabled beforehand, your options are limited. Here's what you can do:

  1. If you have a paid AWS Support Plan, you can open a technical support case with AWS. When doing so, provide the recipient's email address and any request IDs or message IDs that were returned from the SendEmail or SendRawEmail API responses when you sent the message.

  2. Consider that the email might have been delayed rather than lost. Some ISPs use a technique called "greylisting" where they temporarily reject emails from unknown senders. Amazon SES automatically retries these messages, so there could have been a delivery delay.

  3. If you've since enabled Virtual Deliverability Manager, you could search for the specific email using the message ID, recipient, sender, or subject line filters. This would show the delivery status, including whether it was successfully delivered or if it bounced. However, this would only work if the feature was enabled before sending the email.

  4. Contact the recipient or their ISP directly to verify they're using the correct email address and inquire whether there have been any known delivery problems. The email might have arrived but been filtered as spam.

Without pre-configured logging or event tracking, AWS doesn't maintain readily accessible delivery logs for all emails sent through their services. Opening a support case is your best option if you have a paid support plan, as they may be able to check internal systems for delivery information.
