Amazon Q Developer operational investigations feature is currently in preview release and is provided at no additional cost during this period. However, there are some important considerations regarding potential charges:
-
While the feature itself is free during preview, its usage may incur costs related to other AWS services it utilizes.
-
The majority of the service usage, including telemetry and resource queries, will not be charged to your AWS bill. However, there are exceptions, including:
- Certain CloudWatch APIs (ListMetrics, GetDashboard, ListDashboards, and GetInsightRuleReport)
- Some X-Ray APIs (GetServiceGraph, GetTraceSummaries, and BatchGetTraces)
- AWS Cloud Control APIs, which might use services like Amazon Kinesis Data Streams and AWS Lambda
- Integration with chat applications, which might use Amazon Simple Notification Service
-
If the usage of these services exceeds the AWS Free Tier limits, you will see charges on your AWS bill. However, for normal usage of Amazon Q Developer operational investigations, these charges are expected to be minimal.
-
When using the feature's suggested actions, there may be additional charges. For example, executing an Automation runbook incurs a charge based on AWS Systems Manager pricing for Automation.
It's important to note that since this feature is in preview, the pricing structure may change when it becomes generally available. AWS has not yet announced how the pricing will be structured after the preview period ends. It's advisable to keep an eye on AWS announcements and documentation for updates on pricing as the feature moves towards general availability.
