Deploying PostgreSQL 10.14

Hi, We are not using RDS Servless but dedicated instance: We are deploying a new environment with PostgreSQL 10.14 on db.m5.xlarge with multi-zone and got the following error. We are using terraform to deploy all our resources: creating DB Instance: InvalidParameterCombination: Cannot find version 10.14 for postgres status code: 400, request id: 5c429ea1-4668-4b15-a43f-cd3e07ed09e3

I double checked here : https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonRDS/latest/UserGuide/Concepts.DBInstanceClass.html and it said db.m5.xlarge does support Postgres 10.4 above. However, 10.14 is deprecated. Is that the reason we got "cannot find version 10.14 for Postgres"?

this command : aws rds describe-db-engine-versions --default-only --engine postgres only shows version 13 and 14. Are these the only 2 supported by AWS currently? I am actually curious about the most effortless upgrade path if we need to upgrade. this page :

seems indicating we can upgrade from 10.14 to 10.20. Is Amazon going to support 10.x for long time? Or it's wiser to upgrade to 14.x?

Hi, @DavidYen

The guidelines for RDS version policy are set out below. The major version is 3 years old and the minor version is 1 year old.

  • We intend to support major version releases (e.g., MySQL 5.6, PostgreSQL 9.6) for at least 3 years after they are initially supported by Amazon RDS.
  • We intend to support minor versions (e.g., MySQL 5.6.37, PostgreSQL 9.6.1) for at least 1 year after they are initially supported by Amazon RDS.

However, please be aware that it may be abolished early due to security risks and other factors.

While we strive to meet these guidelines, in some cases we may deprecate specific major or minor versions sooner, such as when there are security issues.

It is recommended to systematically upgrade to the latest version from the above.
