Can an existing AWS Direct Connect connection be upgraded from 1 Gbps to 10 Gbps or does a new 10 Gbps connection need to be created then the 1 Gbps deleted?

Existing Direct Connect connections cannot be upgraded from 1 Gbps to 10 Gbps. A new 10 Gbps connection will need to be created and then the 1 Gbps connection deleted afterward.
