AWS Free Tier gives you 750 hours/month of t2.micro (or t3.micro) usage for the first 12 months.
However, if you run more than one instance or keep a single instance running continuously,
you'll quickly exceed this limit and begin incurring hourly charges.
hidden_costs:
- EBS storage (volumes & snapshots)
- Data transfer (especially out to the internet or cross-region)
- Elastic IPs (if unused)
- Idle or forgotten instances
Finops_recommendations:
- 📊 Use AWS Cost Explorer to analyze your EC2 spend.
- 🏷️ Apply cost allocation tags for better tracking by team, project, or owner.
- 🚨 Set up AWS Budgets to receive alerts before exceeding thresholds.
- ⏱️ Automate start/stop schedules for dev/test environments.
- 💣 Clean up unused resources like EBS volumes, old AMIs, and snapshots.
- 🔍 Monitor Free Tier usage.
With proactive cost management and FinOps practices, you can stay in control of your EC2 costs and avoid surprises on your next AWS bill. ...
