Monitron, is it a problem to use sensors in a welding factory or with magnetic fields?

Direct current electromagnetic field will have a frequency of 0 Hz. Communication between sensor and gateway are leveraging Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), and further interference would require the induction to happen at the BLE frequency itself (2.4 GHz). If you have an alternating current field at the same range than BLE, you may have some interference depending on how strong your magnetic field is. Except, if you're in nuclear environment or particles collider environment, I would say this may not be an issue. In a nutshell, from an interference perspective, I don't think there is any issue.

Another thing to look at is how strong the magnetic field is, given both sensors and gateway contains metal (ferromagnetic elements). Any magnetic field strong enough to generate a strong mechanical force hurling the sensors to the magnet will obviously be an issue. A few orders of magnitude of interest:

  • Earth magnetic field: 0.5 gauss
  • Small MRI: 5,000 gauss (or 0.5 Tesla): this can pull keys from your pocket and fly them towards the magnets
  • Powerful MRI: 30 Tesla

Hope this helps give some perspective.
