There are several potential reasons why you might be seeing monthly AWS charges, even if you don't recall signing up for any services:
-
You may have inadvertently created an AWS account separate from your internal employee access. Your internal access to QuickSight as an Amazon employee is different from having a personal AWS account.
-
You might have resources running that you've forgotten about. These could include EC2 instances, EBS volumes, snapshots, or Elastic IP addresses that weren't properly deleted.
-
Resources might exist in AWS regions you don't typically check. AWS operates in multiple regions worldwide, and you might have resources in a region you don't normally use.
-
You could have data storage costs from services like S3 or EBS snapshots that continue to incur fees even when not actively used.
-
If you previously signed up for the AWS Free Tier, some services become billable after the 12-month free period expires, even with minimal usage.
To investigate and resolve this issue:
-
Log into the AWS Management Console and use Cost Explorer to identify which specific services are generating the charges.
-
Check all AWS regions for any active resources.
-
Look for unattached EBS volumes, old snapshots, or Elastic IP addresses not associated with running instances.
-
If you can't identify the source of the charges, contact AWS Support through the billing and account support option for assistance.
-
Being an Amazon employee doesn't automatically exempt you from AWS charges on personal accounts. Your internal access to services like QuickSight is separate from any personal AWS accounts you might have.

Hello there,
I'm sorry to hear that you have received unexpected charges. I recommend creating a case from our Support Center, where our Billing team can thoroughly examine the charges and provide further details: http://go.aws/support-center. I also suggest discussing this with your TM in case they can provide any further information about your employee account.
