How to upgrade from Ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04

Hello all. I received an email that I need to upgrade from Ubuntu 18.04. I have just one instance (Lightsail) and it is running Ubuntu 16.04.

Is there a way that I can upgrade my 16.04 to 18.04 so that I can upgrade to the current Ubuntu version?

I am, most definitely, a newbie...

Why can't you run a new 18.04 instance?

To safely upgrade from Ubuntu 16.06 to 18.04 without downtime in your application, it is better to create a new Lightsail instance with Ubuntu 18.04 and setup your application there. Once you get your application working in the new instance, you can deprecate the old instance.
