How to connect to Bottlerocket EC2

I'm trying to do a test where we launch a standalone bottlerocket ec2 instance. Then run a CIS inspector scan on it. Issue I'm having is once the instance is launched, I'm not seeing it in system manager. I thought it came with the ssm agent already installed. I verified that the IAM role attached to the instance has the proper IAM polices/permissions. What else could I missing?

Have you attached AmazonSSMManagedInstanceCore policy to the ec2 role?
