AWS VPN Client not opening browser window for federated auth

0

Hello, I've been using the AWS VPN Client without a problem for over a year. Having been away from work for a few weeks, when I began using the AWS VPN Client again, the browser window is not opening to allow me to use google to authorize and login. I had updated the client to v3.10.0 and assumed it was the update that had possibly broken it. No infrastructure, keys or user changes have been made.

Here is the list of things I've tried to solve this issue:

  • Fully uninstalled (+removed all config files) and re-installed older versions of the client going back to v3.1.0 (which is same version a colleague in my team is using without a problem)
  • Changed default browser to Edge / Firefox to see if a different browser would open as Chrome had been recently updated.
  • Ensured the .opvn file was the same, created and copied a new version from a colleagues, which was also identical to the file I was already using.
  • Added firewall exceptions to windows firewall and added firewall logging to ensure nothing was being blocked via Windows firewall.
  • I've gone through all the relevant problem solving here under "client cannot connect": https://docs.aws.amazon.com/vpn/latest/clientvpn-user/windows-troubleshooting.html#windows-troubleshooting-client-vpn-cannot-connect
  • Various reboots and launching with "run as Admistrator" - although my Windows user account is an Administrator.

Windows 11 Pro (22H2) OS Build 22621.2215 Experience: Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22662.1000.0

The AWS VPN Client launches and seems to run fine without a problem, but because the browser window doesn't open I can't authorize myself.

Any help or further suggestions would be highly appreciated,

Many thanks,

Dan

SOLVED: This issue was due to using Orbi mesh WiFi hubs with parental controls turned on. The controls were not set to block anything, they were simply turned on for logging purposes, but it must affect the internet gateway by doing so, which in turn broke the VPN Client -> Browser connection.

Simply turning off parental controls within the Orbi app fixed the issue.
