Windows Instances launched using RegisterImage API are showing PlatformDetails as "Linux/UNIX" and are not booting - when the EBS volume snapshots are created using StartSnapshot() API
Steps to reproduce: 1. Create a Windows Instance with a single EBS volume (aka root volume) 2. Take a snapshot of the root volume (Snap-1) 3. Create a new EBS snapshot (Snap-2) using `StartSnapshot` API with the Snap-1 as parent snapshot. 4. On Snap-2, issue `CompleteSnapshot` API with 0 changed blocks. 5. Create an AMI using `RegisterImage` API with Snap-2 as the root volume and same block device mapping as the original instance. 6. Any instance created using the AMI has "Linux/UNIX" in Platform Details and does not boot. It was observed that this issue occurs only if the EBS snapshot used is created using `StartSnapshot` API. For example, if Snap-1 was used in the `RegisterImage` call, any instance created using the AMI is showing platform as "windows" and is booting up properly. Question: Is there any way to create a Windows AMI (that creates bootable windows instances) using EBS snapshots created via `StartSnapshot` API or is there any workaround for this ?

How to have client applications start/stop EC2 instances
I am working on a project which uses VR for architectural visualization, and we are wanting to use AWS EC2 instances with CloudXR to run applications for clients, however, these would need to be remotely started and stopped when the clients are using or not their app. It would be ok to have 1 client per EC2 instance, as each app would be unique, so a manual process of creating and setting up an EC2 instance per client is how I see it working for now, but it couldn't stay running, as they will only be using the app perhaps a few hours a week. I am not sure how to go about this, and I haven't been able to find what I'm looking for so far, so any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
Migration of Windows File Server from Datacenter to AWS
Dear Experts, We have windows file server in Data Center with approximately 3.5 TB of Data allocated in 4 disks in DC. Windows file server is on server 2012 in Data center. We are doing migration of this file server to AWS using AWS Migration Services(MGN). Business user is not ready to use Windows FSX as the option here therefore we migrating the file server. After migration, the server will be upgraded to 2019 and then the cutover will be done. Do you forsee any issue with migration with such a large amount of data? For replication disks we are using gp3 disk and replication is happening over the internet so replication process is quite slow. However, the query is that after the replication, do you forsee any issue with upgrade and cutover of the instance? Business is expecting to have all file shares permissions should be replicated to the target. Thanks
Server Error During Password Recovery via Workspaces Windows Client
Hello, I'm trying to recover a password for a workspace I created previously. I'm using Amazon Workspaces Windows Desktop client and the password recovery form falls into a loop of the "Server Error There was an error with your request. Please try again later." message. I'm pretty sure that my username is correct. The username contains uppercase letters. I also tried typing username with lowercase letters but it did not work. Restarting the workspace through the AWS web console did not resolve the issue. Please kindly assist me. Thanks, Ismet

AWS AMI ami-0c7328b3dbb11f540 (Windows_Server-2012-R2_RTM-English-64Bit-Base-2022.07.13) seems corrupt. It can't run basic powershell commands upon autoscaling launch due to missing files?
AWS released the latest Windows Server 2012 R2 AMIs on 7/13/2022. Upon testing this morning, I found that ami-0c7328b3dbb11f540 is corrupt and will not properly run powershell commands upon launch due to missing files in the filesystem. Reverting to the June image (ami-09e13647920b2ba1d) allowed our autoscaling EC2 instances to launch properly. For specifics, below is the error that triggered an autoscaling build failure. ``` 2022-07-15 13:43:32,501 [ERROR] -----------------------BUILD FAILED!------------------------ 2022-07-15 13:43:32,501 [ERROR] Unhandled exception during build: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'C:\\Users\\ADMINI~1\\AppData\\Local\\Temp\\tmp2_4a69w_/subp-stderr-8e0905c1-1293-4379-bbb8-bf88a2978290.txt' Traceback (most recent call last): File "cfn-init", line 176, in <module> File "cfnbootstrap\construction.pyc", line 137, in build File "cfnbootstrap\construction.pyc", line 564, in build File "cfnbootstrap\construction.pyc", line 578, in run_config File "cfnbootstrap\construction.pyc", line 146, in run_commands File "cfnbootstrap\command_tool.pyc", line 92, in apply File "cfnbootstrap\util.pyc", line 587, in call File "cfnbootstrap\util.pyc", line 562, in call FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'C:\\Users\\ADMINI~1\\AppData\\Local\\Temp\\tmp2_4a69w_/subp-stderr-8e0905c1-1293-4379-bbb8-bf88a2978290.txt' ```
