m1.small capacity issues in use1-az6
There seems to be some issue with capacity at least for m1.small instances in use1-az6 availability zone. I had several scheduled retirements for instances, and when I went to try to start the instances again after stopping them to clear the retirement, I got InsufficientInstanceCapacity errors. It hadn't occurred to me to create capacity reservations before, we're fairly small and have never had capacity issues before. I have created a capacity reservation now with as many m1.small as it would let me (which is actually still fewer than are currently running). Mainly I'm posting here to make sure folks at AWS are aware of this issue and hopefully are working to reallocate capacity to alleviate this. I had to switch some instance types around to get my required instances running again after stopping them for the retirements, and I'd like to get them back to their proper types ASAP. Also never know when more retirements will come in.
[EC2 ICE] Is c5a series more prone to capacity issues? Is there an EC2 capacity heatmap?
Today I encountered Insufficient Capacity Error whilst launching 3x c5a.8xlarge in Sydney region (AZ apse2-az2). After some re-trying I managed to launch c5a.12xlarge in the same AZ. A month or two ago I encountered the same issue with c5a.8xlarge in Mumbai region. Managed to switch some instance to c5 (without the a). My usecase is online events. I need to spin up a number of EC2 instances on short notice. Max so far has been about 10 EC2 instances (I don't think that a big number for AWS). I am using different regions depending on location of the end user. I am now using c5a series (usually c5a.8xlarge) instead of c5 to save on cost. However if another instance series is more reliable (i.e. not getting ICE'd) I would consider changing to a different series. Is the c5a series more prone to ICE? Is there a 'capacity heatmap' available, where I can see the EC2 availability across instance series, regions, and AZs? Ideally I would have access to a 'weather forecast' where I can see the current & expected capacity forecast. In my current architecture I can make changes to instance series / AZ a few days in advance of an event, but it's stressful to make changes within the hour before my customer's event starts.
Our CloudSearch Domain now has 0 instances and no way to increase them
We have a CloudSearch 2011 domain which has been operating fine, but recently lost all it's instances. It now reports "Your domain is deployed on a total of 0 search.m2.2xlarge instance". As 2011 is self-managing, any ideas how to get it to allocate a node at this point? We havv
Amazon Inspector v2 Supporting Windows Targets
We are assessing Inspector as a replacement for our current vulnerability scanning solution, and would like to know if there is a timeline for Inspector v2 to support scanning Windows based hosts. Based on [comments from a similar question](https://repost.aws/questions/QU1oN9RzzhR-WqEdubLdMU3w/inspector-vuln-scan-doesnt-work-with-windows) from 5 or 6 months ago, it is on the roadmap, but is there a potential timeline for availability? Thanks in advance for your time and helpful input.
Instance type support in availability zones in the same region
Hey, If an instance type is supported in one availability zone in a particular region, is it supported in all availability zones in the same region? For example, let's say I checked that m5.xlarge is supported in region us-east-1, on availability zone us-east-1a. Can I assume m5.xlarge is supported on us-east-1b and us-east-1c as well? The support for instance type is per region scope or per availability zone? Thank you, Ori Adler
Lightsail Load Balancer with Plesk Ubuntu Wordpress Instances
Hi, From all the documentation I've seen, AWS suggests that Lightsail Wordpress Highly Available and Scalable sites be set up with Wordpress Bitnami Instances. Can Plesk Instances be used in this kind of setup? Is there any documentation to help show how to integrate Plesk Ubuntu instances with a Lightsail Load Balancer? (plus the other resources...Lightsail managed/RDS database, Cloudfront, etc.) Or is it not recommended to do so? Thanks! David
Architecture for multi-region ECS application
Hi everyone, I just wanted to get feedback on my proposed solution for a multi-region ECS dockerized app. Currently we have the following resources in Region A: ``` Postgres DB (Used for user accounts only) Backend+Frontend NextJS App (Dockerized) ECS Backend Microservice App for conversion of files (Dockerized) ECS Backend 3rd party API + Datastore (This resource is also deployed in other regions) Unknown architecture ``` I now need to deploy to Regions B and C. The Backend 3rd party API is already deployed in these regions. I am thinking of deploying the following resources to the following regions: ``` Backend+Frontend NextJS App (Dockerized) Backend Microservice App for conversion of files (Dockerized) ``` Our app logs in the user (authentication + authorization) using the 3rd party API, and after login we can see which region their data is in. So after login I can bounce them + their token to the appropriate region. I cannot use Route53 routing reliably because the Source of Truth about their region is available after login, and, for example, they may be (rarely) accessing from region B (if they are travelling) while their datastore is in region C (In which case I need to bounce them to region C). I also don't need to replicate our database to other regions because it only stores their account information for billing purposes, so the performance impact is minimal and only checked on login/logout. Currently we have low 10s of users, so I can easily restructure and deploy a different architecture if/when we start scaling. Critique is welcome!
Migrated domain to Route53 and changed nameservers to 4 AWS servers now site can't be reached
Hi, Any help greatly appreciated with the below: I recently migrated my domain to Route53 from Uniteddomains.com and set up a hosted zone to route traffic to my Lightsail instance running a Wordpress site. I've changed the nameservers for the registered domain to the 4 AWS nameservers from the hosted zone, now the URL is inaccessible and Chrome returns an error: "This site can’t be reached". My Lightsail instance has a static IP assigned and the hosted zone is set up to route traffic there. I've tried the DNS propagation checker which shows availability for the SOA record but not the A record. Hopefully this is useful to finding an answer! Any ideas why the site can't be reached? Many thanks!
AWS NTP Server Access
Doesn't AWS have a publicly available NTP server at 169.254.169.123:123? I get destination host unreachable when I ping from my local PC. I've tried using command line and powershell from 2 different computers. How many EFS volumes can I truly create?
I would like to offer an EFS volume for each of my customers. How many am I able to create beyond the 1000 per account limit? **It appears there was a similar question asked about how many can be created in a VPC, and in this use case the answer is 133: **https://repost.aws/questions/QUjn6_-Kb_SO6E8zhz5j8RSQ/what-is-the-total-number-of-efs-volumes-that-can-be-created-in-a-vpc There was a suggestion made to create an access point per customer, but I fear that will reduce the amount of IOPS allocated to each customer as more customers are added to a volume. Not to mention the data not being fully isolated from other tenants. Since there is a hard limit on mount targets it seems like we can only use 133 EFS volumes per VPC if EFS is used in 3 availability zones. What strategies are left in scaling the amount of EFS volumes available to an account? * Create multiple VPCs and each time 133 EFS volumes are created in that VPC spin up another? (Believe there is a limit on VPCs as well) * Create an organization account and create a new account each time we run out of VPCs and EFS mount targets? * Can iPv6 be used for the mount targets to remove the networking constraints? Really want to understand if it is possible to scale to 1 million, 10 million, or even more EFS volumes. Thanks!
Amazonbot web crawler DOS incident
Has anybody had experience with the Amazonbot web crawler? (especially with it looking like a DOS incident) We have a client where their service (hosted on AWS) kept going down until we identified an unusual amount of traffic from an Amazonbot with the User-Agent of "Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_10_1) AppleWebKit/600.2.5 (KHTML\, like Gecko) Version/8.0.2 Safari/600.2.5 (Amazonbot/0.1; +https://developer.amazon.com/support/amazonbot)", after blocking it at an Application Load Balancer level via User-Agent Header rules (since modifying the "robots.txt" did not work / wasn't read) the response time of the clients service dropped significantly and has remained up. If anybody knows what generally causes Amazonbot to crawl sites, or how I can identify the cause for this specific client's site, that would be extremely useful, cheers.
