Elastic Network Adapter (ENA) on Linux instances

Question

Hi everyone,

* It's my understand the ENA is supported only on X1 and Nitro instances, is this going to be extended to other types ?
* I have followed the steps noted here [https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/enhanced-networking-ena.html#enhanced-networking-ena-ubuntu]. I verified the ena module is loaded correctly, however if I am not able to connect using the PTP Hardware Clock.

Is there something I am missing?

Answer

ENA will likely also be effective for new instance types that are released in the future. However, it will not likely be extended to older instance types.

PTP hadware clock seems to be available only for R7g in Tokyo region according to the documentation.
Are you using it on R7g family in Tokyo region?

> The PTP hardware clock is available on an instance when the following requirements are met:
> * Supported AWS Region: Asia Pacific (Tokyo)
> * Supported instance family: R7g
> * ENA driver version 2.10.0 or later installed on a supported operating system. For more information about supported operating systems, see the driver prerequisites on GitHub.
