Pinpoint SMS message sent but not delivered

Question

I am trying the smallest example in sandbox, to get a promotional message delivered to my phone. I have created a segment with a single record, and created a campaign, which I ran on immediate basis. I also created a custom template with some fields in it.
I have added my phone number as a verified recipient and used my number when creating the recipient list of 1 record
Since the campaign completed without my receiving the text I would like to see what happened and at what point the sending failed. Where can I look? More help would be welcome, but at least I would like to know where to look. Many thanks in advance

Answering my own question
I was trying to test the SMS sending using a pinpoint campaign. This happens to be not permitted. According to https://docs.aws.amazon.com/pinpoint/latest/userguide/messages.html "You can't send a test message to a segment—you have to send it to individual users". This is the exact reason it was not working.

Hi!  If you are in the Pinpoint Sandbox, keep in mind that you can only send SMS messages to verified destination numbers.

Another place to look is the ChannelType of your Campaign.  https://docs.aws.amazon.com/pinpoint/latest/apireference/apps-application-id-channels-apns.html

Amazon provides a Amazon Pinpoint SMS Simulator that can help with testing and viewing event records as well: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/pinpoint/latest/userguide/channels-sms-simulator.html.

As for troubleshooting, while Data Events (Sends) are not logged in AWS CloudTrail (https://docs.aws.amazon.com/pinpoint/latest/developerguide/logging-using-cloudtrail.html), you can use Amazon CloudWatch to collect metrics on your Pinpoint campaign.
