Can I use AWS as a nameserver without transferring my domain name registration?

0

Hello,

I am looking to host a static website in AWS (S3 + CloudFront). I currently have a domain name registration with another provider. Could I use (S3 + CloudFront + Route 53[if needed]}) without transferring my domain name registration to AWS?

Yes, the steps are outlined here, Making Route 53 the DNS service for a domain that's in use. You will skip optional Step 10.

One more question, for Step 3: Create records, do I just copy over the records from my existing service provider? I see a list of records such as [Name:@, Type:A, Value:208.97 ..], [Name:ftp, Type:A, Value:208.97. ..] in my existing provider's panel.

  • Yes, replicate those records. Then once resolution is flipped to Route 53, you can change the record to an Alias that points to your CloudFront address.

Thank you, I appreciate it very much! To simplify the thread, I posted a more specific question about Records, https://repost.aws/questions/QUt4eylJxXQ5On1SEzH09USQ/route-53-records
