Route 53 non-existent domain with correct NS records

0

NS records match the ones provided during transfer, still doesn't resolve internally or externally.

ns-1609.awsdns-09.co.uk ns-542.awsdns-03.net ns-41.awsdns-05.com ns-1073.awsdns-06.org

Correct and set up.

Hello Can you perfrom " dig <domain-name> +trace" to start with and see the hierarchy of name servers serving the request.

If the correct authoratative NS servers are being returned, for example:

  • ns-1609.awsdns-09.co.uk

  • ns-542.awsdns-03.net

  • ns-41.awsdns-05.com

  • ns-1073.awsdns-06.org

in this case, then check if the correct A or Alias DNS record was added for the domain. If the DNS query stops at Top-Level domain NS servers, then it could indicate the registry has not completed the transfer yet and propagation wasn't complete.

If the DNS query flow shows incorrect NS servers, it could either indicate the registry has not completed the transfer yet and propagation wasn't complete (or) incorrect NS servers were added during transfer.

https://www.whatsmydns.net/ with 'NS' as record type is a good way to check if NS servers are being propagated across the world

When you updated the name server records did you lower the TTL (time-to-live) value before starting? This is usually set to something like two days, reducing it to a shorter value like five minutes will mean the updated values will propagate quicker.

Steps 4 thru 9 of this document go through the steps in more detail https://docs.aws.amazon.com/Route53/latest/DeveloperGuide/migrate-dns-domain-in-use.html

Also make sure that all four name server records in the registered domain https://console.aws.amazon.com/route53/domains/home#/

Match the name server records in the hosted zone https://console.aws.amazon.com/route53/v2/hostedzones#

if you still have problems after this, consider raising a supoprt call. Even if you're on a Basic Support plan (which would preclude you from raising a support call most of the time) you can still do so under Account and Billing -> Service: Billing -> Category: Domain Registration Issue https://docs.aws.amazon.com/Route53/latest/DeveloperGuide/domain-contact-support.html

AWS provides a Basic support plan, free of charge, for all AWS customers. The plan includes assistance for the following issues related to domain registration:

  • Transferring domains to or from Amazon Route 53
