I can confirm 100%, yes this works.
I have setup a Virtual Machine Server 2022 on Hyper V on my Windows 11 laptop. I have installed SSM and I was able to Connect to it via SSM RDP without any problem. Just ensure Enhanced-Instances is enabled
Reading all the documentation, there is no reason why not.. So here goes...
I have just installed SSM agent on my home Windows machine and it registered with Fleet Manager. I tried connecting and I get the error
An error occurred while calling the StartConnection API operation. ValidationException: The StartSession API operation didn't succeed: An error occurred (BadRequest) when calling the StartSession operation: Enable advanced-instances tier to use Session Manager with your on-premises instances
I have enabled this and now it trys to connect but it stuck trying. I am on Windows 11.. I need to test Server version. Will update if I get it working

Downloading Server to test in HyperV
I think only Windows Server 2012 through Windows Sever 2022 are supported.
Agree with you there

The Advanced instance tier allows you to connect to your on-prem Windows server using Session Manager as long as you have the SSM agent installed and the servers can reach the SSM endpoint.

It only reffers to Shell Sessions. I cant find anywhere yet that says RDP is supported yet
