AWS Database Migration Service

0

A customer of mine is interested in switching from Amazon RDS (MYSQL) to Amazon RDS (Aurora).

His concern:

The RDS instances that he is currently using are not in a VPC. When he started using the instances the default was not a VPC. Will that have any implications on the DB migration tool?

It was not 100% clear to me in the documentation.

Thank you

From the DMS announcement blog post:

The service supports many different migration scenarios and networking options. One of the endpoints must always be in AWS; the other can be on-premises, running on an EC2 instance, or running on an RDS database instance. The source and destination can reside within the same Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) or in two separate VPCs (if you are migrating from one cloud database to another).

Since DMS is meant to support a wide variety of networking scenarios including on-premises, an RDS instance on the classic platform is also supported.
