SNS messages in my billing but not in service details

0

I've noticed that each month I have entries like the following in my billing for SNS:

Number of SMS messages sent to Comoros via Senderid | 458 Messages It's different counts and countries each month.

But I'm not sending those. I have an integration with the SNS API, but looking at my records we haven't sent any SMS messages via the API in the past few months.

I tried looking in the SNS service section in AWS console, but "SMS delivery logs", "Delivery statistics", and "Delivery statistics by country" all show no activity for the past 3 months. I don't really understand where else this could be coming from.

How can I find out what is sending these, and any other info about this beyond the billing line item?

Are you sure this is on the AWS bill?

Sounds a lot like a twilio bill

  • I don't use Twilio, and this is in the AWS billing section. Would non-AWS bills show in AWS? It's in the breakdown of line items in AWS console billing, under the Simple Notification Service section.

  1. Go to Cost Explorer -> Choose Date Range in right pane
  2. Granularity -> Daily
  3. Dimension -> Usage Type
  4. Service -> SNS

Note: Repeat same by changing option in Dimensions field as Cost Category, Availability zone and Charge Type one by one and see where you see charges.

This would show you when and what are the resources/which AZ that's happening.

If you want to setup alert, you can consider setting up AWS budgets and configure alarm on those, which would notify you, if you cross the defined usage threshold. Follow the Well Architected Lab instructions here for setting up budget alert based on your usage.

However, if you still don't figure out and think that it's not a legitimate charge, contact AWS Billing Support Team by following instructions at here

Hope you find this helpful.

  • Thanks Abhishek. I've done this, but it doesn't really tell me anything new. I still see that it's "USE2-OutboundSMS-KM-Standard-Senderid-MessageFees" for example, but I already knew the region and service which was being charged. I just can't find any proof of those services being used.

    I'll reach out to support. I thought I'd try here first, maybe I was missing something.
