Data Transfer Pause

How does one pause the AWS Data Transfer usage on a server? And how would an auto-pause be implemented going forward so that the allotted usage quota is not exceeded?

There is no easy method for this one alternatively you can

  • You can use Amazon CloudWatch to monitor data transfer metrics for your EC2 instance. You can create CloudWatch alarms based on data transfer thresholds to trigger actions when specific limits are reached.
  • Define an action to be taken when data transfer limits are reached. This could involve stopping or disabling the processes responsible for data transfer, using the AWS CLI or SDKs to execute commands on the instance, or triggering AWS Lambda functions to perform automated actions.
  • Use AWS services like AWS Lambda, Amazon EventBridge, or AWS Systems Manager to implement the automation. For example, you can create a Lambda function that stops specific processes or adjusts network configurations when the CloudWatch alarm is triggered.
