Some names are already in use: caspah.info Lightsail

0

**Trying to get my host caspah.info into a lightsail instance. I already have 1 made for caspah.me, now I want one for caspah.info. I had it attached to a Elastic IP in an EC2 instance. I kinda know what I'm doing, but when I'm trying to do it for caspah.info, I get that error. "Some names are already in use: capah.info." I have NO clue what to do. I took away the AX record on my domain hosting site. So, I just don't get it. Can someone help?

This error occurs because Lightsail DNS zones are created in the Virginia (us-east-1) AWS Region, and you're likely experiencing a resource name conflict. When you try to create a DNS zone for "caspah.info," Lightsail is detecting that this name is already being used by another resource in that region.

To resolve this issue, you need to:

  1. Check if you have any other Lightsail resource (instance, disk, etc.) with the exact same name as your domain "caspah.info" in the Virginia region. Remember that in Lightsail, names must be unique across all resource types, not just within the same resource type.

  2. If you find a resource with the conflicting name, you have a few options:

  • Create a snapshot of the resource
  • Create a new resource from the snapshot with a different name
  • Delete the original resource that has the same name as your domain
  1. Make sure you've actually deleted (not just stopped) any previous instance with that name. A stopped instance still exists in your account and continues to use that name.

  2. Verify that you don't have any other resource type (like a disk or load balancer) using the name "caspah.info" as well.

Once you've resolved the name conflict, you should be able to create your DNS zone for caspah.info successfully.

  • So I looked, and I can't see it being used by anything. I released it from the Elastic IP in EC2, that was the only thing holding caspah.info. That's the only resource I used for caspah.info. It was all Ec2 instances.
