Entrepreneurial Developer that builds websites for Clients is wondering what happens if a client doesn't pay for their ec2 instance?

Hi, I'm pretty new to AWS, I know the basics of deploying with an EC2 instance with the help of apache2 and pm2. I was trying to price out how much it would cost to deploy a site on a yearly basis based off of what compute power the client wants. Next thing I got to thinking what if a customer doesn't pay me to take care of the bill? That would suck to have my account disabled because of that. A few work arounds I have thought of is: Should I just go about creating new AWS accounts and setting them up for my clients so they are responsible for that bill? Should I charge a security deposit? With the above I was thinking maybe to multiply the charges by 1.1* until the cost of the security deposit is matched to return that security deposit. Or is there a different solution that I'm not aware of?

How about creating an AWS account using the customer's credit card?
That way the customer would have to pay, and if payment was delayed and the site went down, it would be the customer's problem.

  • I thought of that, however, it would still be on my amazon account. If a customer didn't pay for it I read that if you don't pay your bill then AWS can suspend your account.

  • Yes, AWS account will be suspended if the customer fails to pay the fee. https://repost.aws/knowledge-center/reactivate-suspended-account
