need to separate development/testing time on AWS from user time

0

I am working on a service where I need to allow AWS admins to total the hours spent on AWS by the public, developers, insurance co employees, management, etc, into two separate buckets a) development/testing b) user use. So for example a large insurance company has a AWS hosted websites that get used by employees to look up customers data. They also have a website where their employees can check their paycheck balances. They also have an AWS website where customers can check their coverage for their house or boat. Sometimes corporate uses another AWS site to review system analytics. All of these websites use advanced AWS features such as RDS and Sage.

I need to separate the cost for type a from type b. Where to begin? It is only the developers/testers I need to separate out.

Hi - You may want to check out AWS Cost Categories which help to map cost and usage information to your organizational structure. AWS Cost Categories is a feature within AWS Cost Management product suite that enables you to group cost and usage information into meaningful categories based on your needs. You can create custom categories and map your cost and usage information into these categories based on the rules defined by you using various dimensions such as account, tag, service, charge type, and even other cost categories. Once cost categories are set up and enabled, you will be able to view your cost and usage information by these categories starting at the beginning of the month in AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Budgets, and AWS Cost and Usage Report (CUR).
