RDS went into recovery by itself?

1

One of our RDS instance went into recovery by itself without any notification/admin interactions

There were

  1. nothing meaningful in the event logs, only indicate it went into recovery and restarted
  2. nothing logged in the MySQL error logs either

How do we find out what happened? (ex: if underlying hardware indeed failed?)

Raising a case with AWS Technical Support is the only way to identify if there was any issue occurred in the underlying hardware.

Most likely the hardware on the backend infrastructure has hit some issue - could be disk failure or node failure - check with AWS support by raising a case and find out the actual reason why.

Just had this happen to my db.t4g instance. I don't see anything in my metrics or logs that would cause something like this to occur. I lost all my CPU credits as a result. Thankfully the database was recovered afaik.
