Setup for Second Life

 I'm doing research for a customer with the following requirements and I was wondering if this is a use case that is supported by AppStream 2.0

  • Customer has built a Second Life world where members can interact including via voice. This means that the client device should be able to use the microphone to send to the AppStream instance. I guess a similar use case would be supporting Skype installed in AppStream and that a user accessing the virtual desktop in their browser could make an skype call.
  • Customer wants members to have access to the Second Life experience from devices with lower resources such as tablets and Chromebooks. Second Life requires the installation of a desktop client application that is resource intensive and requires specific graphic cards.  See https://secondlife.com/my/support/system-requirements/?lang=en-US
  • Each user should access to its own virtual desktop.
    Is the Second Life viewer supported in AppStream? It looks like one of the Graphic instances would be required but which one? My customer has approximately 50 users who could access Second Life throughout the day. What AppStream setup would be recommended for supporting these 50 users?

We're already doing something like this at vComm (https://www.vcommsolutions.com) - AppStream graphics design large instances can run the client, although performance is better with xLarge and 2xLarge. Depending upon what it is your customer is planning to do, maybe I can help, or you might even want to consider using our virtual environment AULA :)

Any application that is designed to be installed on Windows OS is supported in Appstream 2.0. You will need to follow software requirements to determine which instance to use and might need to install on different Graphics design instances to test which instance gives you best cost/performance value.
AppStream 2.0 allows you to automatically scale the size of your fleet to meet user demand. Each running instance in a fleet can be used by only one user at a time, which means the size of your fleet determines the number of users who can stream concurrently.
