root user secure login

0

I have created account try AWS and able login the root user in with username and password. But the security seems very low only if it's onlye required username and password to login AWS console. May I ask any more secure option to login AWS console to remain higher security standard, like any 2 factor authentication.

Many thanks

Hello.

You can configure MFA for the root user of your AWS account by following the steps in the document below.
https://docs.aws.amazon.com/IAM/latest/UserGuide/enable-virt-mfa-for-root.html

Also, since the root user can perform all operations on the AWS account, we recommend creating an IAM user if you will be using it on a daily basis.
https://docs.aws.amazon.com/IAM/latest/UserGuide/id_users_create.html

MFA can also be configured for IAM users.
https://docs.aws.amazon.com/IAM/latest/UserGuide/id_credentials_mfa_enable_virtual.html

  • I believe AWS will also be enforcing root mfa in the very near future.
