Can I have multiple private VIFs associated with one VGW?

0

Hi, I am studying the direct connect service. We are thinking about getting a one-gig DX and we want to peer with using two on-prem routers. My understanding is that, for this one connection, I will have two private VIFs, each with a different Vlan. My routers will have different sub-interfaces (one for each Vlan) and my BGP is like

on-prem router1 sub-interface.100 <---vlan100---> private VIF1
on-prem routers sub-interface.200 <---vlan200---> private VIF2

Does this look right? Can I associate both private VIFs to the one VGW for my VPC?
Thanks

Hello Difan,

You can definitely attach two VIFs to the same VGW and it doesn't matter if those two VIFs on running on the same underlay DX connection or not. Your scenario is valid and your traffic can flow from both on-premise routers to your VPC without any problem. Please note that in this scenario (DXVIF is attached directly to VGW), the DXVIF (or the DXCON) will need to be in the same region as the VPC, whereas with Direct Connect Gateway (DXGW), you can access the VPCs in other regions.

You can take a look on (https://docs.aws.amazon.com/directconnect/latest/UserGuide/direct-connect-gateways-intro.html ) to find out more about using DXGW.

Thanks.
