Monorepo - Reference appspec.yml not in root

I have a just moved to a monorepo whereby my deployment dir and appspec.yml files are now in a sub directory.

My codeDeploy now fails as the appspec.yml file cannot be found. How can I reference it now that it is not in the root?

We use TeamCity to package our artifacts prior to uploading to S3. In our CI pipeline we bundle the artifact up so that the yml file is in the root. Can you take advantage of your CI pipeline to control your artifact bundle?
