A Few Lightsail Storage Questions

0

I have to buy additional storage now. Is it possible to mount a storage volume from more than one Lightsail instance?

If not, if I tear down the attached instance, will the files in the storage be preserved and can I attach it to another new instance?

Is it possible to grow storage without losing or having to copy files? Example: if I have 20GB now, and when it starts to get full, can I expand it by another 5GB and still access everything through the same mount point? Or do I have to buy a new 25GB volume and copy everything over and reattach?

Thanks.

You mean mount a single block storage volume on more than one instance at a time?

If so, then no. A block storage volume can only be mounted on a single instance at a time.

That said, if you mount the storage on one instance and export it via NFS, you could mount the remote storage on another instance as long as it's in the same region.

You should probably detach the storage volume before tearing down the instance, but it should be preserved. You should verify the ownership when you mount the volume on the new instance.

I don't think so. You would have to create a new storage volume, copy the data, and remove the old one.
