AWS Certification account naming issue

0

Hello,

AWS ID: AWS01975998

I'm from Norway, which means that my first name on my government issued ID contains non-English alphabet characters: "Øystein". On my AWS certification account it reads "Oystein". There is no issue with my last name, as it only contains English alphabet characters.

I've contacted AWS support several times, but I only get the same standard response to my requests, so I'm asking for help here. Can someone please assist with changing my first name in my AWS Certification account?

Current first name: Oystein
Change to: Øystein

Again, no change to last name is needed.

I have contacted Pearson VUE support as well, who gave me a rather cryptic answer in regards to the naming discrepancy: "the greeter makes the final decision". I read this as "you basically roll the dice on whether or not you are allowed to take an exam if your names don't match."

I apologize if some of my frustration is seeping into this post, but this has been incredibly difficult to resolve so far. PLEASE, someone at AWS assist.

Thank you in Advance.

oyste92,

Our AWS Certification Portal does not allow for non-English/Roman characters. So if your name in the system is Oystein but your ID shows Øystein, you should not experience an issue being admitted into your exam.

Hi Kim,

Thank you for the clarification.

Some polite feedback to the support team:

On the Certification account under "My profile" the following warning appears:

"IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT IDENTIFICATION POLICY - It is required that your first name (given name) and your last name (surname) must be identical to the first and last names on the valid forms of identification that you present at your exam appointment. If they are not identical then you will not be permitted to test. "

I am aware that the next section also reads "This section requires input in English (Roman) alphabet", but I interpreted that as a constraint on what the average user was allowed to input. I would appreciate it if AWS would emphasize that it is in fact impossible to change names to non-English characters, and if naming discrepancies of this nature are permitted when taking the exam.

I am thoroughly confused by the Pearson VUE response, but that is a separate issue.

Again, thank you for the assistance.
