IPv6 support for API Gateway Custom Domain Names

0

Hello,

As I encountered some problems joining our API, I rapidly saw that the problem came from the fact that our custom API subdomain name was not joignable with an IPv6 request and I think that it is due to the fact the automated CloudFront created in API Gateway custom domain name is not configured to receive IPv6 requests.

Is my analysis correct or am I missing something else ? If it's correct is there a chance that API Gateway would support IPv6 in the past month ? Should I create my own Cloudfront to be sure that the call to our API is IPv6 compatible ?

Thank you for your support,

Anouk

Hello Bob,

Thank you for your response. I don't know if you can change it but I would suggest to notify the fact that the custom domain name in API Gateway doesn't support IPv6 requests in the documentation. It took some time for me to realize why our endpoint was working for some device and not for some others. I think this problem can be really confusing for a lot of developpers and should be noticed in the documentation or some FAQ... As I identified the problem was coming from IPv6 protocol I searched for the same problem in the forum and found, as you said, a lot of requests concerning the IPv6 support but it was after identifying the problem, so too late...

Thank you again for your response Bob and I wish you a pleasant day,

Anouk

Hello:

Your assessment is correct. API Gateway does not currently support IPv6. It is a request we have heard from other customers and it is something we are considering adding in future updates to the service, but I cannot commit to a timetable as to if/when it would be available.

Creating your own CloudFront distribution with IPv6 is one method you can use to work around this limitation.

Regards,
Bob
