PowerBI access to S3/Athena

Question

Hi all,

My customer mentioned that they have been able to connect and secure Alteryx directly to S3 .  Can they connect Power BI directly to S3 or thru Athena or via some other method in order to do similar reporting? I know this is possible via Redshift, but their various analytics requirements may not necessitate the use of a DW.

Athena does support JDBC as mentioned [here][1] but I not sure if Power BI supports JDBC calls yet as this has been asked in their forums before with no answers [No solutions for Power BI with JDBC to connect to S3 / Athena][2].

Power BI can connect to Athena using ODBC as mentioned [Power BI connect to Athena using ODBC 1][3] and [Power BI connect to Athena using ODBC 2][4].

You can also use Power Query to query data in S3 as mentioned [Power Query with S3][5]
