Is there a way to force load earlier versions of Office Apps in AppStream Image Builder

0

I need to run an earlier version of Visio in my AppStream.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-revert-to-an-earlier-version-of-office-2bd5c457-a917-d57e-35a1-f709e3dda841

Tells how to do this and I have successfully done it on my local system.

When I attempt in ImageBuilder, it pretends to work but doesn't.

Is there a way to do this?

Image Builders do not come with Office pre-installed on it. However, if you have Office installed on the Image Builder, you would be able to use the same process on the Microsoft documentation to revert back to the previous Visio version. You must do this with the Administrators account on the Image Builder.

Considering that AppStream 2.0 is non-persistent VDI platform which means that each session will create new Instances from Images created from Image Builder. Office Licensing and mobility would not be ideal hence, Office settings on the Image builder might not persist.

I would recommend using Use Session Scripts to Manage Your AppStream 2.0 to download the Office Deployment tools, save the config.exe file and run them upon start of a new session.

This ensures that before new sessions are provisioned, new Instances would be configured to use the previous versions of the Visio.

Note that Office license must have the license mobility to allow multiple use on different VDIs

Feel free to reach out to the Application provider should this not on AppStream 2.0 or if the solution does not support non-VDI. You can also contact AWS Premium Support. See article for steps https://aws.amazon.com/premiumsupport/knowledge-center/aws-phone-support/

Thanks Chibuike_A -- Using Session Scripts... looks like a good next attempt for me. Will take a while for me to fully digest and test, but will "accept" for now. I did use the MS doc reference running as Admin, but as noted in original post it pretends to work, but really doesn't.
