Backup from on-prem to S3 via Direct Connect

0

My customer is uing Veritas Netbackup 8.2 and CloudCatalyst to backup to S3 buckets over the internet and they want to leverage existing Direct Connect connection - bandwidth and data transfer rate is not an issue (see below). I see two options, either via Public VIF or an EC2 Proxy instance. What would you recommend?

2x DX = 500Mbps Data Transfer = 200GB/daily

The most common approach is to use a Direct Connect Public VIF. Adding the proxy adds a layer of complexity that is not necessary, and will likely negatively impact the backup speeds.

I have seen Veritas deployments in the past that leverage Public VIF. It is also the preferred method for several vendors, including Veeam and Commvault.
