"Workdocs shuts down due to an error"

Tried to un-install and re-install but get the same error.

Searched old threads and found one like this but there was no solution posted.

Any ideas??

I got it fixed.

Uninstall workdocs client, then navigate to ~/.config/Amazon folder and rename the AWSWorksDriveClient folder .
Re-install Workdocs drive

That worked

This also worked for me. Thanks so much!

I'm having a similar problem and couldn't quite figure out the solution detailed above. The WorkDocs Drive client installs fine (MacBook Pro 2019, MacOS Catalina 10.15.6). Upon opening, however, the WD icon briefly flashes on and off on the top menu bar, accompanied by a repeated error popup saying "WorkDocs Drive is shutting down due to an error." This will go on ad infinitum until I log out or power down. I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling several times.

Any idea what is going on? Will the solution posted above fix this? If so, could I get some more details?

Thank you.

Hi!

The following worked for me:

  • Uninstall the MAC Workdocs client
  • Then, navigate to the ~ / .config / Amazon folder in that directory is the AWSWorksDriveClient folder, what I did was rename it adding
    OLD to the end
    • Example: mv AWSWorkDocsDriveClient AWSWorkDocsDriveClient_OLD
  • Finally, install Workdocs again

Good luck!

There is also a solution without nuking the config folder.

In short:

  • Open the System Preferences > Privacy & Security
  • Check for ‘Some system software requires your attention…’
  • Allow for AMZN LLC, Inc
  • Reboot

The long answer:

Check the logs inside ~/.config/Amazon/AWSWorkDocsDriveClient/logs/log

In my case there was this error

[2023-11-10 08:08:42,424][thread5][ERROR][AmazonWorkDocsDriveMacClient.AppDelegate] - Unable to mount the fuse drive with return code: '', try to mount without retry and with macFuse error enabled
...

So there was a problem between WorkDocs and macfuse (a kernel extension). To see details on why macfuse fails for WorkDocs you can query the macOS system logs passing --last 1h to see only logs from the last 1 hour (change as needed)

sudo log show --predicate 'eventMessage contains "macfuse" AND eventMessage contains "error" AND eventMessage contains "WorkDocs"' --info --last 1h
  • 'eventMessage contains "macfuse"
  • eventMessage contains "error"
  • eventMessage contains "WorkDocs"'

In my case I had

"Extension with identifiers com.Amazon.WorkDocs.Drive.osxfuse not approved to load. Please approve using System Preferences." UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=Extension with identifiers com.Amazon.WorkDocs.Drive.osxfuse not approved to load. Please approve using System Preferences.}

In the System Preferences > Privacy & Security (which is a confusing settings panel) I noticed

'Some system software requires your attention before it can be used' with a 'Details...' button to click on. There I got a popup saying: "System software from the following developers was blocked from loading. Select those you would like to approve.

  • AMZN mobile LLC - Updated (enabled)

(note I also had Oracle listed here, but I assume neither macfuse nor WorkDocs is implemented in Java)

A system restart is required.

The reason the reinstall works is because the extension approval is part of the installation process but apparently only if the ~/.config/Amazon/AWSWorkDocsDriveClient is no longer present.
