Are there any performance advantages to having multiple ENIs?

0

Is there any benefit to having separate ENIs on an EC2 instance to separate traffic, maybe to separate web traffic from backup traffic?

The documentation is very clear that adding extra ENIs does not increase bandwidth:
http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/using-eni.html

but assuming bandwidth is not a problem, would having separate ENIs result in a more consistent performance for whatever application is being hosted?

Thanks in advance!

There is no performance benefit to multiple ENIs. Some customers will use this to "multi-home" a server into multiple subnets. However, you can usually address the security and traffic segregation requirements through a combination of security groups and ACLs.

The complexity of managing multiple ENIs will generally outweigh the benefits. Unless the customer has a compelling requirement, I would advise against it.
